Who we are:
 

The Victims Initiative for Counseling, Advocacy, and Restoration of the Southwest (VICARS) is a program of Texas Legal Services Center initially funded by grant number 2007-VF-GX-K032 awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice.  This grant program was the result of work done by the President's Task Force on Identity Theft which was created by President George W. Bush in 2006.  VICARS is a program of the Texas Legal Services Center, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making legal services accessible by serving poverty law advocates and client communities. 

Our goal:

VICARS' goal is to provide self help advice and publications to victims of identity theft and financial fraud who live in Texas.

Our services:

Inform victims of their rights relating to identity theft and financial fraud;

Provide publications that will educate clients about their rights and responsibilities and guide them through the process of reporting the crime, restoring their identity, and recovering damages;

Provide clear instructions and sample forms for reporting identity theft and financial fraud and obtaining and reviewing credit reports.
